2017 Overseas Training Course on Aquaculture Technology for Guyana Witnesses A Grand Opening in Guyana
2017 Overseas Training Course on Aquaculture Technology for Guyana, a China-aid training program sponsored by Ministry of Commerce, People’s Republic of China and organized by Fujian Institute of Oceanography witnessed a grand opening in the capital city of Guyana –Georgetown at 9AM of September 18th.
H.E. Cui Jianchun, Ambassador of Chinese Embassy in Guyana, Mr. Liu Mingzhe, Vice President of Academy for International Business Officials(AIBO), MOFCOM, Hon. Noel Holder, Minister of Agriculture of Guyana, Mrs. Joylyn Nestor-Burrowes, Permanent Secretary (ag) of Ministry of Agriculture of Guyana, Mr. Reginald Brotherson A. A., Permanent Secretary of Department of Public Service of Guyana and Ms. Ingrid Peters, Senior Fisheries Officer of Ministry of Agriculture of Guyana, respectively delivered remarks on the opening ceremony.
The present guests also included Mr. Shen Huiyong, Counselor of Economic and Commercial Counselor’s Office (ECCO) of Chinese Embassy in Guyana, Ms. Yan Dan, Secretary of ECCO, Ms. Ding Wei, Deputy Director of Liaison Office and Ms. Fan Wenyi, Program Facilitator from AIBO, MOFCOM, Ms. Vanessa Dickenson, Director of International Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Guyana, other senior officials from Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Department of Public Service, Chinese Specialists, Chinese Program Implementation Staff as well as training participants.

This training course is the first China-aid training program held in Guyana, which are attached great importance by all parties of China and Guyana. Vice President Liu Mingzhe, AIBO of MOFCOM is leading a delegation to conduct the patrol inspection of China-aid overseas training programs in South America and carries out investigation and research in Guyana during Sep. 16- Sep. 19, where he has a broad contact and exchange with all parties of Guyana, through which, he could sufficiently understand and assess the requirement and need of China-aid overseas training programs in recipient countries as well as the implementation situation and specific problems that Chinese program team faces. Moreover, Mr. Liu Mingzhe has offered the organizers like FJIO instruction and encouragement on overseas training work.
In order to assure this first China-aid training program in Guyana a good one, FJIO has carried out a feasibility study in Guyana this April so as to gain a preliminary understanding of the aquaculture and fisheries development status of Guyana, which laid down a good foundation for the lecture and field trip arrangement of training implementation stage. Under the great support and guidance of ECCO of Chinese Embassy in Guyana along with the multilateral collaboration of Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Department of Public Service, the preparation of the training course has gone smoothly to ensure the opening of training to be held as schedule.
As the first country in English-Speaking Caribbean Area that established diplomatic ties with China, Guyana is also the first country set up its embassy in China in this area. It has already been the 45th year for China and Guyana to continue their friendly cooperation since the diplomatic ties were made.
The friendly relation between two countries becomes stronger as time goes by and the pragmatic cooperation reaches great achievement. This training is aimed at assisting Guyana in aquaculture development, improve freshwater and sea water culture technology and promote the building and development of marine fisheries economy. The 2017 Overseas Training Course on Aquaculture Technology for Guyana will bring Guyana Chinese matured, practical and advanced aquaculture technology and practical experience to advance Guyanese aquaculture development so as to play a positive role to the growth of economic GDP of Guyana.
